13.2.1. Low carbon energy tracking<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, University of Souk Ahras consumed a total annual energy of 5431.49 Gigajoules (GJ)<\/strong> of electrical energy.
This year has witnessed a notable increase in energy consumption, primarily due to the commissioning and operationalization of the newly inaugurated university campus. Despite the substantial number of buildings and administrative facilities now functioning within this new hub\u2014spanning an area of approximately 400,000 square meters\u2014the observed rise in energy usage remains well within acceptable and anticipated limits
The University has also monitored the consumption of low-carbon energy across campus, including fuel usage by gas-powered vehicles and electricity generated from solar panels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.3.1. Local education programmes on climate<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, Souk Ahras University implemented a series of educational programs and awareness campaigns\u2014led by the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences\u2014to enhance public understanding of climate change risks and adaptation strategies. Through lectures, workshops, and study days on topics such as global warming, desertification, and water management, the university empowered students and the local community to engage in sustainable solutions. These efforts reaffirm its institutional commitment to environmental education and climate resilience in Algeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.3.2. Climate Action Plan, shared<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The University of Souk Ahras has developed, in accordance with the Ministry\u2019s plan,  a Climate Action Plan aimed at strengthening its contribution to addressing climate change at both the local and national levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan is structured around four key pillars: reducing the university\u2019s carbon footprint through energy efficiency measures; integrating climate education into academic programs; collaborating with local government to support environmental policies; and engaging civil society in awareness campaigns and sustainable initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this initiative, the University aspires to become a national model in environmental education and climate planning, in alignment with Algeria\u2019s goals for combating climate change and achieving sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.3.3. Co-operative planning for climate change<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

University of Souk Ahras is officially engaged in collaborative planning to address climate-related disasters such as internal or cross-border displacement, in coordination with local and national government entities. This engagement is formalized through partnership agreements and cooperation frameworks dedicated to this field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.3.4. Inform and support government<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, University of Souk Ahras contributed to supporting local government efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change through applied scientific research with an environmental focus. Within this framework, and under a cooperation agreement with Sonatrach, the University\u2019s Research Laboratory for Applications, Management, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation of Urban Infrastructure\u2014jointly with the University of Chlef\u2014participated in a scientific project entitled: \u201c<\/em>The Effect of Corrosion Inhibitors on Oil Installations Using Products Derived from Local Medicinal Plants.<\/em><\/strong>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project aims to develop eco-friendly solutions to protect oil infrastructure and reduce environmental damage, reflecting the University\u2019s role in advancing sustainable development and supporting the national economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.3.5. Environmental education collaborate with NGO<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, Souk Ahras University collaborated with non-governmental organizations and active environmental associations working in the field of climate change adaptation, with the aim of promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices within the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This collaboration included the organization of awareness campaigns, workshops, and field projects focused on protecting natural resources and encouraging responsible environmental behavior. Such efforts reflect the University\u2019s commitment to its role as an active partner in national initiatives to address climate challenges and support sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
