School Psychology is a core course offered to second-year psychology students during the first semester.
This course introduces students to the foundations of school psychology, exploring its origins, principles, and scope of practice within educational settings. It aims to build a comprehensive understanding of the role and responsibilities of the school psychologist, emphasizing their contribution to promoting students’ academic, emotional, and social development.
Throughout the semester, students will become familiar with major learning theories that support school-based interventions and will explore learning disabilities and school-related problems that may hinder student performance. The course also introduces methods of assessment and diagnosis to identify and address these problems effectively.
By the end of the course, students will have developed a solid understanding of school psychology as a discipline and professional practice, its core functions in supporting students and teachers, and its role in fostering a healthy and inclusive learning environment.
