In these lectures, we will strive to teach students the concepts related to the field of adapted physical and sports activities by defining the concept of persons with disabilities, which varies from one society to another. Historically, the perception of people with disabilities has undergone different phases across various eras and civilizations. Some civilizations viewed individuals with disabilities as incapable of performing tasks due to their incorrect beliefs, and in some cases, disabilities were perceived as a curse upon an individual due to certain factors.
Some civilizations even despised individuals with disabilities, seeing them as incapable of providing protection or defense against potential threats. Certain rulers went to the extent of ordering the killing of people with disabilities, considering them a burden on society.
However, individuals with disabilities achieved a significant status within Islamic civilization, being regarded as important members capable of performing tasks even beyond the abilities of non-disabled individuals. Islamic teachings honored people with special needs, granting them rights that were often denied in other civilizations.
