Chapter 2: Ecosystem functions: The importance of biodiversity, biodiversity in Algeria, National Parks and Reserves Mediterranean biodiversity, bio-geochemical cycles, primary productivity of ecosystems. Chapter 3: Main causes of ecological imbalance: Disruption of natural cycles, habitat transformation, overexploitation of resources extinction, deforestation, climate change, pollution, unsustainable development. pollution, unsustainable development. Chapter 4: Pollutants: Different types of pollutants, pollution hotspots in the Mediterranean Mediterranean, pollution hotspots in Algeria, transport of pollutants, toxic effects of pollutants on biological and ecological levels. Chapter 5: Pesticide pollution:es : Types of pesticides, molecular and cellular mechanisms of toxic action, biochemical and physiological effects on animals, metabolism of pesticides, main ways in which pesticides are dispersed and circulate in food webs (notion of bioconcentration, bioaccumulation and biomagnification, concentration factor), effects on the structure and functioning of ecosystems, adaptation of populations to pesticides (tolerance), pesticides and ecological imbalances. concentration), effects on ecosystem structure and functioning, adaptation of populations to pesticides (tolerance), pesticides and ecological imbalances. Chapter 6: Heavy metal pollution: Essential and non-essential metals, main routes of metal dispersion, sources of exposure, mechanisms of toxic action of mercury, biochemical and physiological effects on animals, metabolism and elimination of Hg, transfer of Hg through trophic chains (bioconcentration, bioaccumulation and biomagnification, concentration factor), effects on ecosystem structure and function, metals and ecological imbalances. Chapter 7: Eutrophication : Definition of eutrophication, agricultural and domestic pollution, effect on ecosystem and biodiversity, eutrophication indicator species, effect of eutrophication on animal physiology, eutrophication and ecological imbalances. Chapter 8: Pollution monitoring: Biological accumulators, definition of monitoring, characteristics of an ideal bio-indicator, factors influencing the reliability of bio-indicators, use of accumulation bio-indicators worldwide and in Algeria.
