7.2.1 – The University of Souk Ahras follows energy efficiency standards during the construction and renovation of buildings, in compliance with Algerian state policies and laws. Construction permits are only granted to the university by the relevant authorities if the building plans meet these standards. The construction permit serves as a mechanism to protect the environment within the framework of sustainable development.
7.2.2 – Before 2023, the University of Souk Ahras implemented plans to upgrade buildings to meet energy efficiency standards. Examples include thermal insulation of walls and replacing energy-consuming light bulbs with energy-saving LED alternatives.
7.2.3 – Before 2023, the University of Souk Ahras implemented a carbon reduction process to minimize CO2 emissions by converting all university vehicle fuels from gasoline to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which is considered an ideal and environmentally friendly fuel.
7.2.4 – Before 2023, the University of Souk Ahras implemented an energy efficiency plan to reduce overall energy consumption. This was achieved through measures such as wall thermal insulation, which helps reduce cooling requirements during summer and allows faster heating in winter. Additionally, replacing traditional lighting with LED lights significantly reduced electricity consumption. The university also transitioned its vehicle fuel to environmentally friendly alternatives, further contributing to carbon reduction.
7.4.1 – In 2023, the University of Souk Ahras organized national conferences aimed at raising awareness about energy efficiency and clean energy for the benefit of the local community.
7.4.2 – The University of Souk Ahras is committed to promoting renewable energy beyond its campus through scientific research produced in this field, as well as national and international conferences aimed at providing recommendations on renewable energy.
7.4.3 – Through agreements with economic institutions, the University of Souk Ahras has provided services to the local industry aimed at energy efficiency and clean energy. The university, represented by the research laboratory Applications, Management, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation of Urban Infrastructure, participates in two main research axes defined by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
7.4.5 – The University of Souk Ahras, through its business incubator, provides support to startups that promote and support the low-carbon economy and technology.
