As part of the 1st edition of its “France Excellence IFA – Doctorate” scholarship program on the theme of “high technologies,” the French Institute of Algeria is awarding 5 scholarships for the academic year 2024-2025 to students residing in Algeria, enrolled in a doctoral program for less than 2 years at an Algerian university, and wishing to pursue a joint supervision with a French university.

The laureates will receive 18 months of scholarships to stay in France over a 36-month doctoral period, based on 6 months per year.

The call for applications is open from March 10 to April 20, 2024, at midnight (Algiers time).

Priority themes include:

  • Digital sciences, quantum, artificial intelligence

  • Environmental sciences, sustainable development, energy, circular economy

  • Transportation, low-carbon mobility

  • Exploration of marine and space depths, aeronautics

  • Biotechnologies, health, food

  • Information and communication technologies

Eligibility Criteria :

This call for applications concerns :

  • Students currently enrolled in Algeria for less than 2 years in doctoral studies related to high technologies, and wishing to pursue a joint supervision with a French university

  • Individuals who do not hold French nationality (single or dual)

  • This scholarship is not cumulative with any other scholarship or allowance

  • Students benefiting from funding under the PHC Tassili+ project are not eligible

  • The evaluation of applications will be carried out by an external jury composed of representatives from the academic and socio-economic world

Benefits related to the France Excellence IFA – Doctorate scholarship :

In addition to the advantages usually associated with a joint supervision of the thesis (diploma recognized by both countries, registration in both Algerian and French universities, access to libraries and university restaurants, etc.), the laureates will benefit from :

  • Visa fee waiver

  • Exemption from registration fees in public institutions under the supervision of MESR and the Contribution to Student and Campus Life (CVEC)

  • Coverage of their round-trip travel expenses between Algeria and France

  • Health insurance and civil liability coverage during their stay in France

  • A net allowance of €1690 per month, to which is added the direct coverage of several services (insurance, housing search, cultural activities, etc.).

Application Procedure :

The application file must include the following documents:

  • A CV of maximum 2 pages specifying the ranking in the doctoral competition

  • Transcripts of the Baccalaureate and Master 2

  • The thesis project presentation file (to be downloaded) duly completed

  • A letter of support from the thesis supervisor in Algeria

  • A letter from the director of the French laboratory affiliated with the thesis, attesting to the possibility of hosting the candidate in joint supervision of the thesis in their laboratory

Note: applications will be declared inadmissible.

Application Timeline :

March 10, 2024: Opening of applications, April 20, 2024: Closing of applications End of May: Notification of results September/October 2024: Arrival of laureates in France and start of their training.

Candidates will be individually informed of the result of their application.
