UNESCO Coupons Program

We kindly request that heads of universities and research institutions holding UNESCO Coupons take the necessary measures to utilize these coupons before the deadline of December 31, 2028, as set by the UNESCO Secretariat.

Your input and actions are crucial in this decision-making process. Please note that a proposal for the gradual discontinuation of the UNESCO Coupons Program over a four-year period, due to low usage by member states, will be submitted by the UNESCO Secretariat to the 220th session of the Executive Board scheduled for October 2024.

In this context, I am summarising the presentation from the UNESCO Financial Management Office shared with member states during an information session held on May 16, 2024. The presentation indicates that UNESCO plans to phase out the coupon program, which was launched in 1949 and will start in 2025.
