Abstract
The goat population in Algeria still marginalized and poorly understood has led us to
propose a plan of investigations that can help to establish a knowledge base and to pave the way
for improvements. This improvement requires prior knowledge of its phenotypic
characterization and performance. To this aim, three areas were discussed: phenotypic
appearance for the characterization of animals, the use of body measurements, and livestock
indexes (for 1030 goats). The estimated live weight is based on the application of the formula
PV = 85, 30 x TP3 using the chest. In a second phase, two aspects have been completed, we
investigated ADG has different ages (0-10 ADG, ADG 10-30; 30-90 ADG, ADG 90-180, ADG
0-90 and ADG 0-180) (g / d) 100 local kids born 60 sets low, the mortality rate (perinatal and
mortality) were determined. The measured performance of meat in pre and post-slaughter (PC;
R and CEC) was also performed. Finally, reproductive performance; testicular biometrics (CS,
DT, LT, and PT) and analysis on sperm quality (motility, concentration, theratospermia, and
necrospermia) goats gonads from three regions of Algeria. The effect of gender, age, and the
region has begun for all the previously mentioned parameters.
For the characterization of the animals, the results show that the studied sample is made
up mostly of females (78.93%) in the Algerian Northeast; HG, TP and LT goats, are 67,13 ±
5,51 cm, respectively;71,71 ± 9,60 cm and of 72,66 ± 10,83 cm, a predominantly black single
coat color (30,72%) or combined (black magpie: 26,91%). In the highlands;the reported values
are 67,26 ± 4,39 cm; 64,96 ± 7,80 and 71,29 ± 6,48 cm HG; LSI and TP respectively, caprine
population studied is generally of elongate-type (IB> 0,90), Small format (PV1 <35 kg), earth
meadows (PT<0,50). The dominant coat color is black magpie (31,35%), the wearing of ears is
falling (75, 68%). Thegoats in southern Algeriahave HG 65,42 ± 4,53 and 71.93 ± a TP of 6,09
cm, HP measures; LSI and LT are: 34,15 ± 6,13 cm; 74,42 ± 9,20 and 63,97 cm ± 7,84 cm,
respectively, the dominant color is fawn. For production performance, we noted a mortality rate
of 11% and 20% perinatal and J30 respectively, the PN of 1,65 ± 0,58 kg, the P10 is 2,79 ± 0,76
kg, and the P 30 is 5,68 ± 1,17 kg. The ADG 0-180 is 79,82 g /d, the type of birth, a very highly
significant (p<0,001) on PN and P10, as for meat performance: PC 15,39 ± 4,89 kg, a CEC
(2,58 ± 0,50) and R (51,32 ± 6,63)% are recorded; the different lengths measured on the carcass
(K, F, TH) did not significantly varied depending on the sex (p> 0,05), but had a significant
effect (p<0,05) with age. Finally for reproductive performance: Measures HC, TL, PT and TD
were 22, 52 ± 3,61 cm; 9.19 ± 1.79 cm; 71,94 ± 13,02 g and 5,78 ± 1,02 cm, respectively, GSI
is 2,59 ± 0,40 g / kg. The parameters analyzed through sperm quality are acceptable for the limit
for good parent: (4, 80 ± 1,71) x 109 spz / ml concentration, 4,40 ± 0,75 for the motility and
78, 50 % vitality.
