Abstract
Abstract
S. aureus is a pathogenic bacterium of animals and humans causing several symptoms in them, ranging from simple indigestions, foodborne illness and poisonning related to the ingestion of foods contaminated with staphylococcal enterotoxins to severe infections such as skin infections, lung infections, septicemic infections, etc.
Among the major problems of this pathogen, is that of its resistance to antibiotics thus reducing the choice of treatment and unlikely success.
In a first part, the objective of our work is to isolate, characterize and determine the prevalence of S. aureus strains isolated from raw cow’s milk and raw goat’s milk in the wilaya of Tiaret and Souk Ahras, Then, assess their sensitivities to the antibiotics most used in human and veterinary medicine. The production of beta-lactamase by isolated S. aureus strains is sought as well as methicillin-resistant strains. Finally, the minimum inhibitory concentration of MRSA is determined.
In a second part, the objective of our study is to isolate, characterize, determine the prevalence and enumeration of strains of S. aureus isolated from sheep meat, chicken meat and turkey meat, consumed in the wilaya of Souk Ahras. An evaluation of antibiotic sensitivities is conducted for isolated strains.
Prevalences of 26.72% and 32.22% for milk and meat, respectively, a count exceeding the bacterial charge limit of the European regulations, but in the Algerian standard, multiple resistance phenotypes and strong MIC (up to 128 µg/ml) were reported in this study.
Finally, some recommendations have been proposed to limit contamination of foodstuffs of animal origin, to avoid and limit the emergence and spread of multidrug resistant strains of antibiotics used in human and veterinary medicine.
Keywords : S. aureus, enumeration, antibiotic resistance, MRSA, MIC
