Abstract

This article concerns the study of the physico-chemical characteristics of waters
of the dams Ain Dalia and Foum El-Khanga (eastern Algeria), respectively used for drinking water and irrigation.
Monthly samples were taken from December 2013 to November 2014. These
were analyzed for 15 physico-chemical parameters. The results show that the waters of
the Ain Dalia dam have a physico-chemical quality that conforms to Algerian standards
and WHO recommendations for raw water. The waters of the Foum El-Khanga dam are
characterized by an important natural mineralization.
The analysis of the physico-chemical results was performed using standardized
principal component analysis. Typological structure generated by the F1XF2 map
(62.33% of the total variability) shows the individualization of two different groups
according to their hydrochemical quality. The F1 plan represents 46.04% of the total
variance and describes the overload of water of the Ain Dalia dam by orthophosphates,
ammonia nitrogen, nitrite and turbidity in its positive axis, and the overload of water of
the Foum El-Khanga dam in terms of chlorides, conductivity, bicarbonates, sulfates,
nitrates, magnesium, calcium and total hardness in its negative axis.
