Abstract
The objective of this study is the valorization of a natural residue and its application in elimination by adsorption of two dyes the Congo Red (RC) and the Methylene blue (BM) contained in water. Tested natural, this residue is the date stems which belongs to the product range lingo-cellulosic; abundant and good market, which can compete with classical materials: coal, silicagel, alumina etc. The characterization of this material has shown the possibility of its valorization. In spite of his employment without preliminary pretreatment and a weak specific surface near to 1m2/g, but rich in active sites, the tests of adsorption, showed that under a specifics conditions the reduction ratio is higher than 95% for each one of these two dyes taken with initial concentrations between 10 and 150 ppm.
The amount in stems of dates being of 10 g/L, the temperature of 20°C, and the time of contact 1h. The study of the influence of temperature has shown that the adsorption is endothermic. The only divergence of behavior between the RC and the BM is observed for the effect of pH, where the RC has the maximum of adsorption with pH ≤ 2, whereas the BM has a capacity of ultimate adsorption beyond of pH=3. The modeling of the isotherms of adsorption obtained match with the models of Langmuir and Freundlich for each studied dye.
Keywords: adsorption, stems of dates, Congo Red, Methylene blue.
