Abstract

In Algeria, several deposits of clay are used industrially in the West, bentonites Maghnia and Mostaganem, east, kaolins Djebbel Debbagh (Guelma), and Mila are of lesser importance. Clays are characterized by a high capacity of adsorption, ion exchange and swelling as well as rheological properties. They are used in different areas (ceramics, painting, pharmacy......).
However for technical applications, clays should be subject to a suitably adapted to the requirements of their use. In the first step, our work was concentrated on the literature study on the mineralogy, structure and chemical property of the organization and clay textural and morphological properties of clay materials. This study set a goal the identification and characterization would take him from Algerian fields to know to which
family belongs these clays, this objective required the use of a broad-spectrum technique.

Indeed, elemental analysis, spectral analysis, electron microscopy, X-ray analysis, scanning
electron microscopy was necessary to achieve the objective. The second stage will be devoted to studies of clay materials, their purification by various chemical processes (sodium citrate, oxygenated water, sodium chloride .....) and physicochemical characterization according to the protocols used in this field.

A third step, the application of these clay minerals in the adsorption of pollutants in aqueous
medium to know their adsorption capacities and realize their efficiencies.
