Summary
Fatma Al-Marnissi’s feminist discourse attempts to shed some light and go deep into the cultural heritage and its taboos. This cultural heritage is an intricate network of knowledge and power relations which for long centuries took part in distorting the humanistic image of women. Fatma Al-Marrnissi, purposely, explored various old references to depict the major obstacles that hindered the historical role of women and later on became a powerful and repressive institution favoring class divisions, and sexist manifestations between individuals in different societies.
Especially, the religious, judicial and conventional authorities that appeared after our Prophet (PBUH) were bound to the Islamic heritage in order to discover the various ideological positions towards women. Such positions, whether, masculine, political, religious, or dogmatic have consolidated a distorted picture of women pretending that the Islamic component is an authentic cemetery for women.
For that very reason, the author was aided by the multiple outcomes of western methodological revolution (the psychological and analytic method, the historical method, the sociological method, the contrastive method, the political studies method and the theological method) in order to cover her analytic method with objective scientific hints in cultural field without ignoring the ideological perspective which to a great extent has covered all her feminist theses. The author has rendered cultural analysis a valuable extension to such theses on the basis of a myriad of intellectual approaches.
The author’s various works have provoked serious but violent debates between revolutionary proponents and groups of extremist opponents. Hence, she took on the responsibility to defend seriously and vigorously, women’s issues in general and the Arabic women in particular. She stands in the way of the priests of intellect, as she prefers to say, armed with scientific points of view, conscious about historical, socio-economic, cultural and human conditions of all women all over the world. It is very necessary and urgent to reconsider the prevailing thoughts about women on the basis of different values as democracy, tolerance, peace and dialogue. Such values contribute in gender equality as a cultural, human and civilizational thesis where men and women become cultural beings and not sex beings.
The author introduces herself in a rather anthropological cultural field than a sociological one because this latter will always be delayed whenever the issue of sexuality is considered. In her feminist discourse, the author recalls the

forgotten sayings in relation to the woman’s body with its positions, tendencies, and conditionings for the sake of opening up more liberal spaces. Her various feminist theses are dominated by discourses of pleasure and desire as a conscious way to celebrate the other via the body after it had been neglected due to relative ethical decency.
However, with the upheaval of what is commonly known as the phenomenological philosophy, the body has managed to occupy the cultural sector when the French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty discovered the subjective body. Fatma Al-Marnissi followed an excavating strategy within an intellectual field in order to depict all sexual visions in not only Arabic and Islamic civilization but western (Jewish and Christian) civilization as well. She explored Michel Foucault’s intellectual views which took into consideration the human sexual origin as a necessary entry to know the human essence.
The author stresses upon the fact that the historical approach in studying such issue will become a conscious and constituent reading of cultural dialogue through ongoing explorations in human existence, human relations (between men and women in particular) facing today’s chaos and its socio-economic, political, and cultural reflections caused by the western materialistic civilization considering the distorted visions on sexuality in order to consolidate its imperialistic tendency in dominating the human consciousness and its illicit appropriation.
