Abstract

Abstract :
This work has been carried out in the evaluation and validation of some biological and therapeutic properties of a plant widely used in the Algerian medicine ‘Artemisia herba alba Asso’ of the Asteraceae family, harvested from the region of Fedj El Dib, Souk Ahras, Algeria.
Firstly, an ethnobotanical survey was carried out with 300 people in order to gather information on the plant studied, especially its uses in traditional Algerian medicine, and also its preparation methods. However, a pedological and floristical analyzes was carried out on facies of Artemisia herba alba; of which 45 plant species belonging to 42 genera, from 26 botanical families were identifies
At the same time, the phytochemical study carried out on the aerial parts of 'Artemisia herba alba' revealed the presence of 10 secondary metabolites including flavonoids, saponosides, alkaloids, tannins and mucilage with carotenoids in trace form.
Histological sections realized on the stems and leaves, using the double coloring technique, revealed the presence of the anatomical characters of dicotyledons.
As regards essential oils, extracted monthly by the hydrodistillation technique, the best yield obtained is recorded during September (1.80 ± 0.03%), the analysis of these essential oils by GC / MS revealed the presence of 20 components including 5,6-Dicarbadecaborane (68.33%), 1,5,5-Trimethyl-6-methylene-cyclohexene (7.00%), 4,8,12-Tetradecatrien-1-ol, 5 , 9,13-trimethyl (5.13%), bicyclo- [3.1.1] heptane-2-methanol (4.39%), cyclo-pentane acid, 3-methylene carboxylic acid (4.19%), phenol, 2,3,5-trimethyl- (3.15%) and beta-pinene (0.29%) are in the majority.
The biological tests have confirmed some traditional uses of Artemisia herba alba such as hypoglycemic and anti-inflammatory power.
Key words: Artemisia herba alba, Asteraceae, ethnobotanical survey, pedological study, floristical analyzes, phytochemical study, Histological sections, essential oil, CG/SM, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory.
