Abstract
Diagnostic of the pollution of certain aquatic environments
in the region of Souk Ahras
ABSTRACT
The upstream Cherfwadi watershed is located in the region of Sedrata, northwest the wilaya of Souk Ahras. The region has experienced significant economic growth in recent years with the development of agricultural and industrial activities associated with a strong demographic expansion. Among the types of pollution reported in this region are salinization of water and soil, as well as pollution by heavy metals.
The waters withdrawn from the various sites are, on the whole, characterized by concentrations dominated by chloride, sodium and calcium.
The statistical study of the data showed that with the exception of the campaign in March, where the stations present almost the same physicochemical characteristics, Crab wadi and Hamiminewadi (S1, S 2 and S3) are still opposed to the two other stations S5 and S6 (Trouchwadi and Cherfwadi downstream) showing that these stations remain polluted during almost the entire study period.
The comparison of the water quality indices of six selected sites in the upstream Cherfwadi watershed shows a pessimistic diagnosis. It clearly shows the (very poor) unsuitability of all the sites for drinking water production uses, irrigation and watering and for aquaculture, a fair to good suitability.
Keywords: Watershed - Salinity - Heavy metals - Pollution - quality.
