Abstract
Ideally, voltages and currents propagate through the electric power system at the fundamental
frequency of the network. However, according to research studies, it is usually found that the electric signals waveforms are far from being sinusoidal because of the presence of nonlinear loads which generate harmonic currents and consume reactive power. Therefore, the present work aims to study the behavior of a parallel active filter for harmonic current compensation.
After a review of the causes of harmonic pollution and their impacts on electric networks, the active devices allowing minimization of such effects and a modeling of the overall system (network, pollutant load and active filter) are presented. Then, the control of two and three-level inverter based-shunt active filter is studied for various harmonics identification techniques, namely, instantaneous power p-q theory method, synchronous d-q reference frame theory, and synchronous reference (d-q-r) theory technique.
Finally, the obtained simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed control strategies.
