Abstract
The aim of this study is to highlight the role of both value engineering and business processes reengineering in costs reduction at the construction sector in the east of Algeria, by spotting the light on how value engineering can enhance the efficiency of projects planning phase, therefore eliminating the most important causes of cost overruns that accrued due to the mismanagement of this phase, on the other hand illustrating the role of business processes reengineering in lowering costs that rise due to the inefficiency of processes management by implementing processes redesign at the level of construction companies, the study addressed tow samples from the research community, the first one consists of the construction technical consultancy firms, because it’s the one that is concerned directly by the implementation of value engineering, the second sample consists from building contractors who operate in eastern Algeria, and we used a questionnaire as research tool reinforced by a number of interviews as mean to illustrate the study results, we analyzed the data with the SPSS23 software using the suitable statistical parameters.
The study found a set of results the most important of them is the contribution of implementing value engineering and business processes reengineering in costs reduction at the construction sector in eastern Algeria, by enhancing the efficiency of the planning phase, and processes management at the construction phase, the study also concluded that the construction firms under research needs processes redesign by following the business processes reengineering methodology.
