Abstract
-
This workaims to study the effectof zinc and vitamin E deficiency in Wistar rats (Rattusrattus) on the physiological state of pregnancywith an evaluation of someindicatorssuchasgrowth rate, foodconsumption, and somebiochemicalparameters (glucose, For the successofthisstudy, wealsotitratedsomeprotein and enzyme biomarkers (alkaline phosphatases andaminetransferases), as well as creatinine, urea, and uricacid in pregnantwistar rats, andprogesteronehormone, zinclevel.
Forty(40) rats weredivided in to four groups:
The firstgroup (G1, n=10)wasfed a normal diet(normal zinc level 54mg/kg).
The second group (G2, n=10)wasfed a zinc-deficientdiet(1mg/kg).
The third group (G3,n=10) wasfed a zinc deficientdietsupplementedwithvitamin E (500mg/kg).
The fourth group (G4,n=10) wasfed a normal dietsupplementedwithvitamin E (500mg
/kg).
Afterthreeweeks of observation, the rats underwentfasting and sacrifice.
From the results, itwasobservedthat rats fedadietlowinzincexperienced a decrease in weightwith a decrease in foodconsumption. Zinc deficiencyledtoincreasesinglucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and progesteronelevels.
Alsoduringpregnancy ,it has been observedthat rats fed a zinc-deficientdietexperience a decrease in protein and alkaline phosphatase. On the other hand, an increaseintransaminases (TGO, TGP) with the same groups, as well as creatinine, urea and uricacidlevels.
In addition, vitamin E supplementationimproved the effects of dietary zinc deficiencyduringpregnancy. On the other hand, thisstudywasconducted to detected the effect of vitamin E supplementation on the tissues of pregnant rats subjected to a zinc-deficientdiet.
Fromourresults, wealsonoticedthat the zinc deficientdiet has a strongcorrelationwithlow zinc concentration in the liver, kidney and femur, except for the pancreas. In addition, Absence of zinc in the dietresults in a markeddecrease in its concentration in the placenta and the fetus.
In conclusion thatvitamin E supplementationmay have played a major role as a potentantioxidant agent and thus the ability of rats to reduceoxidative stress resultingfrom zinc deficiency.
