The definition is regarded as the key of the lexicons, It enables us to understand meanings and explanations of different terms in each language, It is the main purpose of such lexicon. This purpose is considered variable from dictionary to another or even from definition to another. That is what is shown by researcher’s efforts and their different vision towards definition. Which is regarded as a thorny and old essue of the language research, which is still under the research?
So that, our aim from this study is to highlight the definition as an important element in the lexicon role, and how linguists were interested it in studying and researching for it through the criticism and analysis of a selected model of lexicography generalistic and other specialists to reach the most important problematic that pushes the definition to be ambiguous, and the inaccurate as well as the spread the circularity in definitions in the explanation and presentation of certain terms and concepts.
