Abstract

Abstract
This work was devoted to the elimination of methylene blue (MB) using a classic material, natural silica from El-Aouana Jijel and a biomaterial, peanut shells. These materials have been characterized using physico-chemical and spectroscopic techniques such as: XRF, DRX, IR, SEM and BET. The adsorption tests were carried out in static mode. For the BM assay, molecular absorption spectrophotometry (UV-Vis) was used as an analytical method. The study of the influence of physico-chemical parameters such as mass, stirring speed, initial concentration, solution pH and temperature, made it possible to determine the optimal conditions. Several kinetic models including pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second, and intraparticle diffusion model have been used. In addition, equilibrium data were applied to Langmuir and Freundlich models. Adsorption has been well described by the pseudo-second order kinetic model for natural silica and peanut shells. The adsorption isotherm of BM on natural silica obeys the Langmuir model, on the other hand it obeys the Freundlich model for peanut shells.
