Abstract
The present study aims at exploring the importance of implementing conversation-based approach in EFL classroom as well as its contribution to enhance English learners’ speaking skills. Moreover, this research attempted to probe the effectiveness of using Discord application as a tool to foster learners’ conversation competence. Discord is a voice and text chat application that was used first among gamers and business groups but lately it is used as an alternative media in virtual learning. A mixed-method was employed in this exploratory, descriptive research, which included both qualitative data and quantitative data collection methods. A triangulation approach had been used as a method for collecting data, utilizing three main instruments; a questionnaire for EFL teachers, a participant observation was conducted during the six sessions of the project with Third year students who were selected conveniently to be part of the Discord Project. Finally a group meeting was held post the project with the participants to elicit their perception on this latter. The findings of this study indicated that the implementation of conversation based learning influences learners’ speaking skill using an innovative tool which is in this case Discord application.
