Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of movies as an instructional tool in developing students’ informal language during their oral sessions as well as other modules in the department of English language at Mohammed Cherif-Messaadia University, in Souk-Ahras. Informal language learning is a skill that requires: judgment, reflection, reasoning, and questioning. Therefore, we hypothesize that using movies with subtitles as an instructional tool will develop student’s awareness toward the use of informal English. To achieve the objectives of the study, a descriptive-qualitative quantitative method was followed. It aims to describe two variables. Our main research instrument to collect data is movies projections joined with designed movie-related worksheets, and classroom discussions. The sample of the research was a randomly chosen group from first year LMD students of Department of English students, at the Department of Foreign Language, Bunch of English, University of Mohammed Cherif-Messaadia University, Souk-Ahras. After analyzing the obtained data of present research, it revealed that subtitled movies are an effective and practical teaching technique. They can positively affect and develop students informal language learning. In fact, students demonstrated positive attitudes towards viewing movies as part of their classroom instruction. Finally, on the basis of our findings, some recommendations and pedagogical implications are suggested with the hope that
