Abstract

Writing effectively requires more than just the ability to generate ideas and express them coherently. It also involves the capacity to revise, edit, and refine one‘s work. Self-editing, which is the process of reviewing and improving one‘s own writing, is a crucial element of the writing process. Nevertheless, it is often neglected, particularly by inexperienced writers, despite its significance. The current study aims to investigate the role of self-editing techniques in enhancing the writing skills of EFL students at Mouhamed Cherif Messaadia University in Souk Ahras. The study used two research tools, a student questionnaire and teacher’s structured interview. The qualitative and quantitative results indicate that students acknowledge the significance of self-editing in minimizing errors in their written work, and that it contributes to creating high-quality texts over time and fosters learner independence. Furthermore, the findings corroborate the research hypothesis that self-editing techniques are effective in improving students‘ writing skills. Therefore, students should be educated about these techniques and how to use them effectively.
