Abstract

This study aimed to examine the impact of integrating cultural materials in EFL teaching on students\' language learning and their cultural awareness. It was conducted among second-year EFL students at Mohamed Cherif Messaadia University in Souk-Ahras, utilizing a mixed-method approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 18 open-ended and close-ended questions administered to n49 students selected randomly from a population of N99 students, and a semi-structured interview with six EFL teachers. The findings indicated that integrating cultural materials positively affected students\' language learning and cultural awareness. However, some challenges, including time limitations, students\' lack of motivation, and the appropriateness and authenticity of materials, were identified. Based on the findings the hypotheses generated were confirmed. Overall, this study contributes to the growing body of research on the importance of integrating cultural materials in EFL teaching.
