Abstract

This study aims at investigating the students on the academic oral skills and to what extent they are using them in different academic settings in the Department of English Language at Mohamed Cherif Messaidia University, in Souk Ahras. Academic oral skills are effective verbal communication in various academic situations, which includes skills such as: delivering clear and organized oral presentations and using effective language, that the EFL students should focus on to achieve the effective oral skills . This exploratory research used only one method to collect quantitative data. One instrument had been used, a questionnaire comprised of 63 statements was administered to n50 students chosen randomly from N96 master 1 students of the English Department, Souk Ahras University. The obtained findings showed that oral skills do not consist only of receptive and productive skills, they are made up of other five skills: Phonological, Pragmatics, Syntax, Morphological and Semantics skills. However, developing students\' academic oral skills can enhance the ability to communicate effectively through spoken activities and listening in academic settings. Based on these results, the hypotheses are confirmed, therefore training students to use academic oral skills in various academic situations overcomes barriers to the success of communication in their learning.
