Abstract

The overall aim behind this descriptive research is to investigate the benefits of usingSecond language in teaching and learning English in the classroom, the case of first year LMD students and teachers at the department of English at Mohammed Cherief MessaadiaUniversity, in Souk-Ahras. The research hypothesizes that: Learning French will make learning English easier and its use in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom has proven to have a positive effect on both speaking and writing skills . To test the hypothesis, two research instruments are used: a questionnaire,and interview. The Questionnaire is delivered to first year students of English language, and the interview is used with teachers of English. Overall, the integration of French in the EFL classroom has been shown to be an effective method for improving English language proficiency among students at Mohammed Cherief Messaadia University.
