Abstract

ABSTRACT
This study aims to find the main difficulties faced by EFL learners while speaking English in the department of English language at Mohammed Cherrif Messaisdia University. Therefore, the work attempts to reveal the causes of such problems and the main solutions that can be used to enhance students’ speaking ability. In the process of achieving the above objectives, this work used a mixed method to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. Three main instruments have been used. Firstly, a students’ questionnaire was administered to n 35 students from N 150 first year students of English, at the University of Souk-Ahras. Secondly, a teachers’ questionnaire was conducted with 08 teachers of oral expression & comprehension. Finally, a classroom observation was conducted with a group of L1 students over seven sessions during oral expression course. The obtained results confirm the hypothesis which suggests that “Psychological and linguistic problems have a great impact on students ‘speaking skill.
