Abstract
One of the major responsibilities of any teacher is to enable student to perform effectively through oral language .The aim behind this research study is to investigate and clarify how teachers expectation influence the learners performance.
In order to achieve this study we used exploratory sequential mixed method as an approach to combining qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis in a sequence of phases (two-phase design). In the first phase, the researcher has collected qualitative data and then analyzes the data. Next, quantitative phase which is a questionnaire and an interview as form of qualitative data collection.
In this study, the population consists of EFL third year bachelor classes at the University of Mohamed Cherif Messaadia at Souk-Ahras, in the academic year 2022-2023. The students that make the sample represent 40 students.
In the end of the study, our first hypothesis were confirmed which is Pygmalion effect can influence positively the EFL learners’ oral performance by giving them more confidence in their capacities.
As a result, our study demonstrates that the learners’ capacity to perform effectively is greatly influenced by teacher’s positive expectation like eliminating anxiety, raising students’ motivation level and giving them more self confidence.
