Abstract
Oral Presentations (OPs) are considered one of the most challenging and complicated tasks for learners of English as a foreign language (EFL), but still, one of the most needed competencies in higher education to fit the learners\' academic proficiencies and future career needs and goals. This research paper is an attempt to investigate; the students\' perceptions towards OPs as a form of assessment in EFL classrooms, and provide them with useful solutions to overcome their problems with this type of tasks. Accordingly, we hypothesized that; if EFL students choose a topic of their interest, prepare it well, and practice it regularly; they will be able to overcome the difficulties they face during their oral presentations performances. To test the validity of the stated hypotheses; a descriptive method was conducted. Two questionnaires were designed as research tools. An online questionnaire was distributed among Master one EFL students at the English Department in Mohamed Cherif Messadia University of Souk Ahras. Another questionnaire was submitted to the teachers who assigned their students with OPs tasks. Since the data gathering tool was held in terms of questionnaires: the results were analyzed quantitatively when the final statistics were obtained, and they were interpreted qualitatively in relevance to the findings. The major findings obtained from the data collected, confirm that the students perceive OPs as provocative and frustrating tasks.
