Abstract

Evapotranspiration (ET) is a complex process composed of physical evaporation and physiological
evaporation (transpiration), it is estimated through empirical formulations more or less complex that
require the knowledge of a number of local climatic parameters, such as temperature, precipitation,
insolation and evaporation, but it remains to be seen if the model used is adapted to the local climatic
specificities?
The present work mainly consists of evaluating potential evapotranspiration (ETP) using the
empirical formulae of Penman-FAO, Thornthwaite, Turc, ANRH (National Water Resources Agency),
and Blaney-Criddle, on a monthly inter annual scale with deduction of annual values. They are then
compared and correlated with the ETP calculated from the evaporation values of the class A
evaporation tank, located at the Béni Haroun dam climate station (eastern Algeria), for the 1998-2015
series. The comparison showed that the results of the Blaney-Criddle formula at annual scale are the
closest to those of the ETP of the class A evaporation tank, with a coefficient of determination R² =
0.988 and ER = 0,45%, and also the Blaney-Criddle formula for monthly ETP (R2 = 0,988 and ER between 3% and - 47%)
