Abstract
ABSTRACT
There has been a shift in education from a focus on teaching learners to use language correctly to training learners to acquire the essential life skills to meet life challenges. Similarly, Algerian educational decision-makers found it important to meet the requirements of this interconnected world by introducing this teaching philosophy via the so-called 2nd generation programmes. Besides, introducing newly implemented tutorial sessions in EFL middle school settings as an attempt to develop the 5Cs (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and culture) alongside other underlying learning goals. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of well-designed content of tutorial sessions in promoting the 5Cs in Algerian middle school learners and to explore the teachers\' overall perception of these newly implemented tutorial sessions. The researcher used a mixed method approach, including a web-based questionnaire administered to (104) middle teachers of English from the four quarters of Algeria ( the east, the west, the north and the south) and an in-depth interview with four dedicated inspectors of English. The findings contributed to the existing literature by highlighting the effective teaching strategies and tasks developing the 5Cs. The study aims to provide recommendations for educators and curriculum designers to inform the instructional materials used in tutorial sessions and to provide practical guides for EFL teachers about the practical implementation of tutorials for skills enhancement.
