The results of this study showed that most second year EFL students commit a lot of spelling errors, and the most common types of errors were both substitution and omission errors, in addition to transposition and insertion errors. The causes of these problems were found to be the lack of lexical knowledge due to the lack not reading and practice Also, the interference of the French language created a difficulty in spelling some English words. The last part of this research provides some important suggestions and recommendations for both teachers and learners. Teachers need to be aware of the reasons of their students’ spelling errors, and also choose the right teaching methods in order to treat the spelling problem and achieve better results.
