Abstract

Abstract

This research is about the content analysis of the English textbooks for third and fourth grades level of the Algerian primary schools,which aimed at investigating the content analysis of the English textbooks prescribed for grades 3 and 4 in Algerian primary schools. The primary objective is to evaluate whether the content of these textbooks is appropriate and suitable for meeting the needs and learning objectives of the students. The research employed mixed methods Quantitave and qualitative methods utilizing three data collection techniques: content analysis, a questionnaire, and an interview . The content analysis technique is employed to analyze the content presented in the English textbooks for third and fourth year Algerian primary schools by using the criteria of both external and internal evaluation to evaluate textbooks , external evaluation providing a concise review of the materials from an external perspective, focusing on aspects like the cover, introduction, and table of contents etc... , and the internal evaluation focusing on the language and the skills used etc…This qualitative approach facilitates an extensive examination and interpretation of the textbook contents. In addition to the second technique a questionnaire is distributed to 30 English teachers from various primary schools in Souk Ahras to obtain their perspectives on the textbooks. Furthermore, the last technique an interview is conducted with the inspector of primary schools in Souk Ahras to gain additional insights regarding the Algerian EFL textbooks. Finally , By triangulating data from these three sources, the research study aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the suitability and efficacy of the current English textbook content for primary students in Algeria. The findings will inform potential enhancements required to better align the textbooks with student needs and learning objectives.
