Abstract

The evaluation of landscapes is a delicate and complex undertaking because of the multiplicity of methods and approaches. The latter may be considered objective if it is based on a value scale which reflects the quality of the landscape studied as a function of measurable endpoints that may optionally be mapped. Those are the criteria that led to the realization of an evaluation based on three approaches or methods which are:

- approaches or methods based exclusively on landscape criteria in view of the visual aspect;

- other approaches based only on the value system of socio-cultural individuals and their own experience with the landscape seen regardless of spatial data;

- the last category of approach that best suits the landscape concept puts it in direct relationship with the viewer or observer who seeks to understand the relationship between the shapes of the landscape and its social representations.

Keywords: Estimation - qualitative method - quantitative method – Landscape
