The University of Souk Ahras is committed to applying the laws and regulations set by the Algerian state, particularly Article 65 of the Algerian Constitution, which guarantees free higher education for all individuals, regardless of their family’s income.
1.3.1 Free Education
1.3.2 – According to the applicable laws, the University of Souk Ahras allows its low-income students to complete their studies at the Master’s and Doctoral levels. In 2023, 2,571 students were enrolled in the Master’s program, including 4 students with disabilities and 12 international students, in addition to 399 students enrolled in the Doctoral program.
1.3.3 – In 2023, the University of Souk Ahras provided support to low-income individuals (and to all university students and employees) by offering food (1.2 DZD / 0.007 euros) for students and (1.4 DZD / 0.009 euros) for employees, in addition to housing in university residences for students whose residence is 50 km away from the university for males and 30 km for females, at a price of 400 DZD / 2.55 euros per year. The university also allocates buses to transport students to and from the university and various neighborhoods in the city of Souk Ahras and the university residences at a price of 135 DZD / 0.86 euros per year. Additionally, it provides free medical services for resident students.
1.3.4 – In accordance with the programs and laws of the Algerian state, the University of Souk Ahras implements these programs and laws aimed at assisting low-income students by providing free food, accommodation, and transportation.
1.3.5 – In 2023, the University of Souk Ahras provided support for international students coming from low-income or lower-to-middle-income countries, similar to the support received by Algerian students. This includes: providing food (1.2 DZD / 0.007 euros), and housing in university residences at a price of 400 DZD / 2.55 euros per year for 06 students (01 male – 05 females). The university also allocates buses to transport students to and from the university and various neighborhoods of the city of Souk Ahras and university residences at a price of 135 DZD / 0.86 euros per year for 5,076 students (3,417 residents – 1,659 external students), in addition to providing free medical services for resident students. The Algerian state policy also encourages students from low-income countries to study at its universities.
1.4.1 – In accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and under the supervision of the National Coordinating Committee for Innovation and University Business Incubators, the University of Souk Ahras established a local committee and launched a business incubator dedicated to supporting the startup of financially and socially sustainable businesses through education and related resources. This initiative aligns with Ministerial Decree No. 1275 issued on September 27, 2022, which outlines the procedures for preparing a graduation project to obtain a university certificate for emerging enterprises by students of higher education institutions.
1.4.2 – The business incubator at the University of Souk Ahras guides students with an innovative project label to secure the necessary funding for their projects from relevant authorities, such as the National Agency for Support and Development of Entrepreneurship, the National Agency for Microcredit Management, and the National Fund for Financing Startups (ASF).
1.4.3 – In 2023, the University of Souk Ahras implemented programs aimed at improving access to basic services for everyone, including professors, staff, and students. The University Services Directorate ensures the implementation of programs that allow students to benefit from health, food, and housing services. Additionally, the Social Services Committee works on implementing programs for professors and staff, enabling them to also benefit from health and food services. Furthermore, the University of Souk Ahras signed an agreement with the Provincial Civil Protection Directorate, which allows for annual first aid training for students.
NB – This convention is valid for 5 years.
1.4.4 – In 2023, Souk Ahras University contributed to policy making to implement programs and policies aimed at eliminating poverty.
