Résumé

This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of indulging a Collaborative Online InternationalLearning (COIL) tool (Padlet) to promote Algerian EFL studentsꞌ creative writing skills and reducetheir apprehension towards writing. The study followed a quasi-experimental approach which is aconveniently selected one-group design. The participants were around eleven (11) Algerian studentsandanotherfour(04)Internationalstudents.Totestthemainhypothesesthatsuggestedthepossibility of enhancing Algerian studentsꞌ writing skills and helping them deal with their writingapprehension through the use of Padlet, a pre-post EFL creative writing skills test, afive-pointLikert scale writing apprehension questionnaire was prepared. Students were pre-tested, to identifytheir level of EFL creative writing skills and their writing apprehensionꞌs level. Then, they weretrained through the suggested collaborative online web-based program (Padlet) on how to developtheir creative writing skills (fluency,accuracy,flexibility, and novelty) and on how to deal withtheirwritingapprehensiontowardsapproachingwritingtasks.Participantswereobservedadequately through these three main phases (preparation, practice, and evaluation) along with thechanges in their attitudes towards writing. The post-test was conducted on the participants to assesstheir level of progression in EFL creative writing skills and the effectiveness of Padlet in helpingthem deal with their apprehension, along with a focus group interview. The findings of the studyrevealed to what extent Padlet was truly effective in enhancing creative writing skills. Moreover, itsuggested a new way through which teachers can decrease studentsꞌ writing apprehension in writingassignments.
