Abstract
-
The objective of this study is to evaluate some aspects of the ovarian function of the Ouled Djellal ewe in the semi-arid region. The first part of this study consists of evaluating the ovarian response to the different ovarian stimulation protocols for embryo production.Estrus was synchronized using intravaginal sponges that contained 40 mg of FGA, which were inserted for 14 days. Different superovulation protocols were considered in different groups: PMSG alone (T1), PMSG associated with GnRH (T2) and PMSG associated with double injection of hCG (T3). The control of the ovarian response was carried out on the 8th day after removal of the vaginal sponge by counting the ovarian structures (corpus luteum “CL” and anovulatory follicles “AF”) at the slaughterhouse and by radio immunoassay analysis of progesterone (P4). The results obtained in the number of CL in the different treatments (T1, T2, T3) are (6.33 – 9.00 – 10.50) and in the number of AF (2.00 – 3.60 – 4.16) respectively. The injection of GnRH or the repeated injection of hCG did not reduce the number of AF. There is a positive correlation (r = + 0.69) between the number of CL and the level of P4. However the correlation is negative (r = - 0.40) between the number of AF and the level of P4.
The second part is to study the variations in biochemical and hormonal profiles during the post-partum period. Blood samples were taken one week after lambing weekly during 4 weeks for biochemical parameters (Glucose, Triglyceride; Cholesterol; Creatinine; Albumin; Urea; Total proteins; Ca: Calcium; K: Potassium; P: Phosphorus; Na: Sodium; Cl: Chloride; Mg: Magnesium; AST: Aspartate aminotransferase; ALT: Alanine aminotransferase) and during 10 weeks for hormonal profile (P4). Statistical results showed for certain biochemical parameters significant variation (P<0.001) for (glucose, triglyceride, calcium, ALT) and (P<0.01) for (creatinine, AST). The results obtained showed that the 1st mean of progesterone peak was reported at the 6th week post-partum. Biochemical indices Changes during post-partum indicate the energy deficiency of ewes at the beginning of lactation. Post-partum progesterone level changes would indicate ovarian activity resumption after lambing during seasonal anestrus (winter), and the reproduction of Ouled Djellal ewe tend to be non-seasonal.
