Content | Part I - Chemistry of natural waters 10 weeks 1- General information 2- Properties of suspended solids Double layer theory; Stability of colloidal suspensions; Turbidity and turbidity units; Determination of suspended solids 3- Matter in solution - Major elements, fundamentals and characteristics - Units used in water analysis - Checking water analysis - Salinity or mineralisation - Hardness and hydrotimetric titers - Alkalimetric titers and alkaline composition of water - Calcocarbonic and carbonic balances - Aggressivity of water (Langelier index and graphs, Ryznar index, Determination of pHs by calculation, Puckorius scaling index, Stiff and Davis index, Larson index, Leroy index, Aggressivity index) Part Two - Wastewater chemistry 5 weeks 1- Generalities and definitions 2- Characterisation of wastewater - Oxidisable matter content * Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) * Chemical oxygen demand (COD) * Total organic carbon (TOC) - Kjeldahl nitrogen (NTK) - Weight content * Suspended solids (SS) * Volatile suspended solids (VSS) - COD/BOD5 ratio |
