Content	Teaching objectives Deepen students’ knowledge of what the social conception of language ; linguistic diversity in opposition to the homogeneity of the language; covariance linguistic facts and social facts. Material content: - Problems and definition of sociolinguistics. - Sociolinguistics and related disciplines: ethnolinguistics, dialectology. - Language and social classes: society and language, social class, social classes and uses of language language, social classes and linguistic change. - Variation, society and space: language, gender and sex, creation and structuring of a language, death of a language, bilingualism and diglossia. - Language and policy: norms and societies, language planning, language policy in Algeria. - Ethnography of communication: Basic concepts.
