Content | Education objectives: This standard aims to identify orientalists’ studies of Arabic literature and its criticism: starting points, means, goals, and importance. Notable orientalists and their studies on Arabic literature, its topics, phenomena, and figures, and on Arab literary criticism and its issues. Content of the subject: Lecture vocabulary: 1- A general overview of the Orientalist movement / its implications / contexts / goals 2- The most important schools of Orientalism 3- The paths of Orientalism and its tools: the Crusades 4- Translation 5- Journeys 6- Memoirs 7- Orientalism and the translation of sacred texts 8- Orientalism And the translation of the main Islamic intellectual books 9- Orientalism and the translation of Arabic literature 10- Orientalism and the translation of ancient Arabic poetry 11- Orientalism and the translation of modern and contemporary Arabic literature 12- Classical Orientalism and the new Orientalists: continuity or dissonance? 13- A reading of distinctive Orientalist experiences: Blacher/Park/Michal...etc. 14- A general evaluation of application vocabulary: 1- A reading of the most important definitions 2- Examples from the French and English schools 3- A reading of the effects of the Crusades 4- Antoine Galant 5- Chateaubriand 6- Delacroix 7- Translating the Meanings of the Qur’an 8- Translation of Ibn Rushd 9- The Pitfalls of Translation 10- Andre Michal 11- A Reading in Some Examples: Naguib Mahfouz/Al-Sayyab 12- An Evaluation of Both Directions 13- A General Evaluation of It 14- A General Evaluation Method of Evaluation: Being Lectures are evaluated via an exam at the end of the semester, while the evaluation of directed work is continuous throughout the semester.
