Content | - Definitions (Ecotoxicology and Toxicology, toxic and intoxication, xenobiotic, ecosystem, pollutant and contaminant), sources of pollution. - Classification and physico-chemical properties of pollutants. - Fate of pollutants in the environment, fate of pollutants in plants. Notion of residues, toxicity of pollutants and interactions between pollutants. - Effects of toxic substances on plants, e.g. heavy metals contaminating terrestrial soils and waters (absorption, accumulation, effects on plant-specific parameters such as photosynthesis, growth and central metabolism, etc.); - Aspects of human toxicity, using cadmium as an example; - Oxidative stress and protective reactions; - Organic contaminants (\\\"Xenobiotics\\\"), their absorption and biochemical and physiological effects; - Toxic gases (ozone, nitrogen and sulfur oxides, peroxyacetylnitrate, chemical smog in general); - Putative reasons for forest dieback; - The ozone hole and global warming - possible consequences for plant ecosystems... - Population distribution of plant sensitivity to toxic substances. - Impacts of pollutants on agroecosystems. - Action of pollutants in plants and the notion of bio-indication. - Risk assessment. |
