Content | Contents of the module: Chapter 1: Distillation (7 weeks) - Reminder of liquid-vapour equilibria - Flash distillation, bubble point, dew point, Distillation of binary mixtures: - McCabe and Thiele method: Lewis assumptions. Operating lines for the rectification and exhaustion sections; thermal lines for the feed, Determination of the theoretical number of stages Optimum location of the feed, partial condenser - partial reboiler, Limit cases (total reflux, minimum reflux). Multiple supplies and withdrawals. Murphree efficiency - Overall efficiency. - Ponchon Savarit method: Enthalpy-concentration diagram. Material balances and enthalpy balances for enrichment and exhaustion zones and for the entire column. Optimum feed position. Minimum number of theoretical stages, minimum reflux, partial condenser. Case of two feeds Chapter 2: Liquid-Solid Extraction (Leaching) (5 weeks) Solid-liquid equilibrium. Janecke diagram. Determination of the theoretical number of stages, case of counter-current and cross-current extraction. Equipment used in continuous and discontinuous processes. Chapter 4: Mixing (3 weeks) Applications (mixing and dispersion). Different types of agitators. Calculation of Reynolds number, power number, Froude number, sizing of a stirring system (stirrer diameter, number of baffles, power, stirrer positioning). |
