Content | 1- Introduction to wastewater treatment 2- Wastewater characterisation and quantification - Characterisation of wastewater quality (BOD, COD, SS, nitrogen, phosphorus, oil and grease, hydrocarbons, toxic elements, heavy metals, temperature, pH, etc.) - Quantification of wastewater (allocation, average flow, peak coefficient, maximum flow in dry weather, maximum flow in wet weather), flow quantification techniques - Evaluation of techniques for reducing wastewater at source - Regulation and attenuation of flow variations (sizing of equalisation basins) 3- Wastewater collection and pumping - Design of sewerage systems to evacuate the various sources of wastewater (according to population, flow rate, load) (types of sewerage networks) - Design of pumping stations to transfer wastewater to treatment plants and discharge treated effluent to the receiving environment. 4- Proposals for wastewater treatment systems Select and design the various treatment stages according to the composition of the wastewater and the destination of the treated effluent: Protection of receiving environments (wadi, dam, groundwater, sea), protection of public health, reuse of treated wastewater (agriculture, industry, etc.), groundwater recharge.... 5- Physico-chemical treatment - Wastewater inlet channel (sizing and adjustment techniques) - Screening (objective, different types of screens, calculation of head losses and wetted surfaces for a clean and clogged screen, determination of approach speed and passage speed, quantity of rejects retained). - Grit removal (channel, aerated and tangential grit removal, objective, operation, calculation of dimensions, calculation of air requirements, calculation of the quantity of sand retained) - De-oiling/de-greasing (static degreasing, aerated degreasing, objective, operation, calculation of dimensions) - Chemical treatment (buffer tank and phosphate removal, objective, operation, sizing and dose optimisation) - Sedimentation and settling (objectives, discrete sedimentation, flocculent sedimentation, lamellar sedimentation, zone sedimentation and compressive sedimentation), sizing of primary and secondary settling tanks (shape, inlet, outlet weir, bottom, sludge extraction system etc....) - Aeration and agitation (aeration and agitation techniques, implementation and control parameters) - Malfunctions and remedial techniques in physico-chemical treatment (diagnostic techniques and implementation of remedial procedures) |
