Abstract
Several construction, stabilization, and reinforcement techniques have been used in the field of civil engineering to address issues related to swelling. The most commonly employed methods include saline solutions, sand addition, treatments using hydraulic binders, organic treatments, and preventive techniques. Indeed, these treatments allow to limit the damages caused by swelling and settlement or insufficient mechanical characteristics of clayey soils sensitive to water. Furthermore, expanding the possibilities for reusing on-site materials through soil treatment is a requirement of sustainable development, aiming to reduce material deposits and associated transportation costs.
The results of this work are summarized in the behavior of the swelling soil of the Mila region which presents a swelling potential to be revealed, appreciated and measured by direct and indirect methods. An improvement by the addition of polypropylene fiber is adopted giving an improvement on almost all the percentages, of which 4% remains as the best fraction for adding polypropylene fiber.
