Abstract
The present study in the field of discourse analysis is situated at the crossroads of some enunciative theories centered on the relation between language and context. Its objective is to show the subjective part of journalistic mediation in talks and reported statements, by identifying in reported speeches the traces of the journalist-reporter’s inscription, and explaining the different facets of his intervention in reported talks, as well as the means that allow him to intervene. The goal is also to show that more than grammatical content, reported speech is a fact about language, an act of enunciation, a reality of everyday life.
The corpus of this study consists of a set of articles from five different French daily newspapers: El Moudjahid, Le Quotidien d’Oran, El Watan, Le Soir d’Algérie et Liberté. These articles deal with the same theme, “2014 Presidential Elections”, and range over the period before, during and after the election campaign of April 2014.
This study makes a contribution to the issue of reported speech and the analysis of media discourse in a particular French and socio-cultural context. In fact, it not only constitutes an in-depth multidisciplinary perspective on the multifaceted constraints that weigh upon the reported forms of speech, but also revisits the question of the encounter that discourse produces between the enunciator and a certain number of social roles.
Thus, the thesis draws attention to the impact of the reception organ on the practices of Algerian journalistic discourse and sheds light on the subjective imprint that the use of local languages gives to journalistic discourse.
