In accordance with Algerian national legislation, the University of Souk Ahras maintains a non-discriminatory admissions policy grounded in academic merit. Admission decisions are based solely on applicants’ qualifications and performance, without bias related to gender, nationality, or background. This principle is embedded in both institutional practice and the broader legal framework governing higher education in Algeria.

In 2024, in accordance with  the University’s charter of Deontology and Ethics,  the university upheld this inclusive approach by ensuring that all eligible applicants meeting the academic criteria were admitted, reflecting its commitment to fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity in access to higher education.

The policy of University of Souk Ahras prior was to ensure non-discrimination in admissions based on gender, as well as inclusivity for students with disabilities and those from developing countries. The university regularly tracks and measures enrollment rates each year to monitor any gaps.

In 2024 and in preceding years, the University of Souk Ahras maintained a comprehensive policy on non-discrimination and anti-harassment, firmly rooted in its Charter of Deontology and Ethics. This charter serves as a foundational framework to uphold the values of equality, mutual respect, and inclusivity throughout all university operations, academic engagements, and interpersonal relations.

10.6.5. University diversity officer

In 2023, the University of Souk Ahras established the role of Diversity Officer to strengthen its commitment to an inclusive and respectful academic environment. This position is held by an individual who also serves as the designated representative of the Professional Ethics Committee, ensuring that diversity initiatives align closely with the university’s standards of professional ethics. This dual role emphasizes the university’s dedication to ethical conduct and diversity, fostering a welcoming environment for all members of the academic community.

10.6.6. Support for underrepresented groups

In 2023, the University of Souk Ahras strengthened its commitment to entrepreneurial education by organizing dedicated evaluation days for startup projects proposed by third-year bachelor’s and second-year master’s students as part of their final year projects. These events were held in accordance with Executive Decree No. 1275, which encourages the transformation of academic projects into viable startups. Led by the university’s business incubator, Innovation Support Center, and Entrepreneurship development center, these evaluation days provided a structured platform for students to present their ideas, receive expert feedback, and explore pathways for incubation and commercialization. This initiative complemented broader orientation efforts, including guidance sessions for first-year students on academic progression and evaluation mechanisms.

University of Souk Ahras provides different accessible facilities for disabled people such as accessible toilets in several buildings, Elevators adapted for individuals with disabilities are installed in multi-storey facilities, ensuring barrier-free vertical access. and  all new constructions and renovations adhere to national and international accessibility standards, including ramps, wide corridors, and inclusive design features.

The University of  Souk Ahras expanded its support for individuals with disabilities by offering specialized services through its Preventive Medicine Unit. This unit provides essential health services tailored to meet the needs of students/employees with disabilities, promoting their well-being and ensuring they have access to medical support on campus. Additionally, the university introduced psychological support services, led by a dedicated psychologist, to provide mental health assistance and personalized guidance for students/employees facing psychological challenges. Through these initiatives, University of Souk Ahras reaffirms its commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and accessible environment for all students.

In 2024, the University of Souk Ahras reinforced its commitment to supporting students with disabilities by implementing tailored services that address their specific needs. A dedicated on-campus psychologist provides individualized counseling and mental health support, ensuring students feel guided and empowered throughout their academic journey. For visually impaired students, the university introduced specialized exam assistance, whereby trained personnel read examination questions aloud and transcribe answers on the student’s behalf. These measures reflect the university’s ongoing dedication to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment where all students are given the opportunity to thrive.

Since its inception and throughout 2024, the University of Souk Ahras upholds a firm anti-harassment policy grounded in our Charter of Professional Ethics. We are committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment for all members of our community, where each individual is valued and protected from any form of harassment. Our policy emphasizes that harassment of any kind—whether based on race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or other personal characteristics—will not be tolerated. Through this policy, the university ensures that everyone is aware of their rights and responsibilities, promoting integrity, dignity, and mutual respect within our campus and beyond.
