In 2024, the university accepted all applications submitted to it within the framework of its policy based on providing a free service of an educational and developmental nature. This is what made it accept 100% of admission applications from women, as well as applications from men.

While the University of Souk Ahras does not require a separate institutional policy specifically addressing women’s applications or participation, gender equality is fully embedded in national higher education legislation and institutional practice. In accordance with Algerian state law, university admissions are based solely on academic merit and are entirely free from gender-based discrimination.

In 2024, the University of Souk Ahras accepted 100% of all eligible female applicants, reflecting its inclusive and equitable admissions framework. Women have equal access to all academic programs, services, and leadership opportunities, and their participation is actively supported across all levels of university life.

subjects

In 2024, the University of Souk Ahras actively promoted gender equity by encouraging women to enroll in underrepresented fields, especially technical disciplines. Thanks to inclusive policies and support programs, women became the majority in most faculties, marking a significant achievement in balanced academic representation

The University of Souk Ahras actively promotes gender inclusion by encouraging female participation in traditionally male-dominated fields, notably the Bachelor’s program in Physical and Sports Activity Sciences (STAPS). Through targeted outreach and awareness initiatives, the university has increased female enrollment in this discipline, as evidenced by visual documentation of students engaged in academic and practical activities.

5.6.2. Non-discrimination policies for transgender

5.6.3. Maternity policy

In accordance with Algerian state laws, specifically the Public Employment Law No. 03-06 dated July 15, 2006, the University of Souk Ahras ensures a maternity policy that supports women’s participation.

Article 213: A female employee benefits from maternity leave during pregnancy and childbirth in accordance with the applicable legislation.

Article 214: Starting from the end of her maternity leave, a breastfeeding employee is entitled to two paid hours of absence each day during the first six months, and one paid hour each day during the following six months.

5.6.6. Women’s mentoring schemes

Through its Preventive Medicine Unit, the University of Souk Ahras organized orientation programs for faculty, female staff, and female students, including awareness days on breast cancer, AIDS, and smoking. A significant attendance was observed, with more than 20% of the female students participating.

5.6.8. Policies protecting those reporting
discrimination

In 2024, the University of Souk Ahras strengthened its dedication to ethical governance by establishing confidential channels for students and staff to report misconduct. Operated through the Professional Ethics Committee, formed under Article 1.3.2 of the University’s Charter of Ethics, the initiative guarantees protection from discrimination and upholds equitable access to employment and education. This measure fosters a culture of transparency, accountability, and mutual respect within the academic community.

5.6.9. Paternity policy

The University of Souk Ahras ensures the implementation of Algerian state laws that require the application of paternity policies. Law 03-06, dated July 15, 2006, allows fathers to benefit from a 3-day paid leave to take care of and look after a newborn. The same law also permits fathers to take unpaid leave in case of emergency situations.
